BILL AMBERG PHONES

2006

Hulger believed that creating technology products with more permanence required a completely different design and production approach in order to create products that improved, rather than eroded, with age. The phone designs, as well as the materials used, all built on this ambition.

However, to drum up interest, Hulger needed to turn up the dial to find more extreme examples of this thinking in action. Good quality leather, crafted products are well known to improve over time and in response to use. The character of worn leather bags and accessories is valued and has a high status so we approached on the of world’s foremost leather designers and craftsmen, Bill Amberg.

Bill was incredibly excited and supportive of the project and set about creating sleeves, jackets and shells to cover all of HULGER’s phone models. Hides and skin patterns were cut and stitched to create premium, fetishized phones objects that were seductive and sculptural.
